"No one would believe me but at times I would choose wartime in Saigon over peacetime in Alabama." | I have heard from many of you that you LOVE this book! But this isn't really a "happy" book--Ha and her family face many challenges as they flee Vietnam. Look at the quote to the left. It's from the back cover of the book. Why does Ha say this? What does she miss about Saigon? What challenges does she face in Alabama? Post your first name & room number Answer the questions above Watch for your Nene Lunch Discussion Pass Wednesday morning! |

I think Ha would choose Saigon over Alabama because she's not used to America. I think Ha misses home and probably some family that might've lived there. The challenges she faces in Alabama is school, people pinch her and pull her arm hair because they wanna know if she's real. This is one the best Nene books I have ever read!

this book was good because she took so many changes like she can't speak english, she does not know what a hotdog was, they think she not smart. It was a great story about a little girl left her country to leave from war.

I like this book because it is an interesting book to read it's basced on a true story like soul surfer that's basced on a true story. And it caches peoples eye when you just read the back of the book P.S. I did not read the back of the cover well I did to see what the book was about then I read the book and unlike some people will just read the back so they can come to the disction.

The book has so much emotion and detail that it the words are so strong that you can cry. i enjoyed it but felt bad for all of the hardships she had to take like no papaya tree, bullies, english troubles, missing father. It all comes together into a amazing book about a girl.

I love this book. I felt very sad that Ha's mom always chants until they find out that their father died. I felt bad that the story was actually based on a true story. It had times and moments from the authors life. It had a emotional relationship with all the changes and thoughts of Ha and her family. She was one of those people who their childhood was not as fun as ours. They did not have the things we have. There were wars and people traveling and having to get a education for the kids.

I love this book. It's just really sad knowing all of the things that have happened in her life. It's also really sad to know that all of that happened to a real person.

What I like about is that she move to another city but something happen to her dad because she hadn't see him in a long time. But on July 2 her mother to sell the ''Amethyst'' father to come back. Then he trained in the NAVY before she was born. Comments are closed.
