We are lucky to have Autumn, Kennedy & Jamie leading this week's discussion on Sharon Draper's book, Out of My Mind! Melody is the smartest girl in her school, but most people don't know this--Melody cannot talk. Melody has cerebral palsy. This means that the part of her brain that controls muscle movements doesn't work right. For Melody, this means she can't feed or dress herself, hold a pencil or walk. Some people with cerebral palsy can do all of these things. |
1. There are times in the book when Melody is desperate to communicate & wishing she could jump out of her wheelchair. If you were Melody, in which scene would you want to be able to walk or talk? Explain why and give evidence from the book.
2. Your first name & room #
