Danielle, were you surprised the mom let them take home so many animals? I was! =)

What does Elinore say or do that makes her so adorable?

My favorite character is Scooter!I like Scooter is because at the end is where the Papa says (move over a bit,Scooter,".)
The reason I think papa is saying it nicely to Scooter because he had a dog named Scooter!!
What I also think papa said it softly and nicely to Scooter because he loves him.
I also think that this book was called (Waiting for the Magic) is because Elinor's mom is going to have a baby and there new dog named Scooter.
(What I think about this book)
When I Read this book its like trying to ask me entertaining question.
I want to be the mom too, because she always does what she wants
for the best for the dogs and the cat also her two, kids and papa.
I think the baby's name going to be William.
I hope the author makes another second book of Waiting for the Magic!!!!!!!!!

Esterlyn,
I forgot to ask you at the discussion today what entertaining questions the book asks you. I wanted to know more about your comment.

Paticia McLaughlan has MANY great books. You can find her books in the fiction section: FIC MCL

One of my favorites is
The true gift : a Christmas story and I didn't even realize that she is the author if my favorite dog poetry book--"Once I ate a pie." I think she must be a dog lover!

My favorite character is Elinor because she knows the right to not say bad words and she keeps a bad word list to not say it and I really think its cute how she say word as "wood"! And I feel sad that their dad isn't there with Will and Elinor because the dad doesn't get the time to spend those little moments with his children. And its suprising and sneaky that the mother is pregnant and she hasn't told the father! (P.S I can't believe they have 4 pets)

Jamie,

My favorite characters are all of the animals!. I wish that I could read my puppy's thinking. I try to do this by looking at his eyes but I wish that I could hear him in my mind. I need some magic!

Rori,
The author, Patricia MacLachlan, is an animal lover too. I just read an interview about how she got the idea for her dog poetry books, "I didn't do it" and "Once I Ate a Pie" You can find the books in the library at 811 MAC.

Did you put a picture of Fenway on your weebly?

Caleb, you are right--she asks a lot of questions. Her mom and brother seem to have patience for her too. Will has questions too, but he doesn't ask his out loud. Why not?

I like when the dogs talk becuase they make me laugh. I also like Elinor becuase she dresses up her cat with her baby clothes, she also keeps a bad word list and tells the cat thats a bad word!

Draven,
I like the details you included to describe Elinor: her see through wings and her costume.

I'm glad you liked the book. Maybe look for other books by this author. Scan through the other posts and you will find the call number for her books.

Samantha,
You are right--the book is funny! I thought the food the dad cooked was a little funny--noodles and maple syrup.

Wasn't it interesting how each dog had their favorite human and their own, unique personality?

Henry,
Thank you for bringing up magic today--that you would recommend this book to a friend who likes magic. Elinor seems to believe in magic first, but I thought it was interesting that somebody told Will, you need to be brave to see magic. I never thought of that before.

I LOVED THIS BOOK.My favorite character was Elinor because she was very funny in the book,I could see her in my own eyes because of the way she acts (i had a bad word list when i was little), and her character is just like how i would imagine a girl her age.i also liked scooter because it was so sweet that papa had a dog with that name too.

A lot of authors use animals to help the story along. I think that the animals in Waiting for Magic are wonderful characters. They are so supportive of Elinor, Will, Mom, Dad and even of the new baby!
I would like to have animal friends who wanted to protect me and could secretly share my feelings!

Ms. D, I agree with you--the animals protect their family, help them work through their emotions and even inspire the Dad to write a poem!

The next book, Ghost Dog Secrets, focuses on the plight of a dog and one boy's efforts to help the dog. Maybe your students would read it together? Let me know if they are interested.

Your students shared many great insights today and it was a pleasure to have them at the discussion!
